RDA Microelectronics Achieves Volume Production of EDGE Transceiver for Samsung Galaxy S(R) III

SHANGHAI, Feb. 21, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- RDA Microelectronics (Nasdaq:RDA) ("RDA Microelectronics" or the "Company"), a fabless semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets Radio Frequency (RF) and mixed-signal SoC semiconductors for cellular, connectivity and broadcast applications, today announced volume production of its RDA6220E EDGE transceiver for use in LTE Samsung Galaxy S III (S3) smartphones sold in South Korea.

RDA's 6220E transceiver is a complete multiband RF front-end module (FEM) for GSM/GPRS/EDGE digital cellular handsets and wireless data modems. It includes an integrated power management unit that can be directly connected to the battery power supply. The receive section interfaces between the RF band-select SAW filter and the baseband IC. The RDA6220E receiver employs a digital low-IF architecture and supports both a universal analog baseband interface and DigRFSM 1.12 digital interface. The transceiver includes a digitally-controlled crystal (DCXO) and completely integrates the reference oscillator and frequency tuning varactors.

Vincent Tai, chairman and CEO of RDA Microelectronics, commented, "We are very pleased to have been selected by Samsung Electronics as a supplier for its feature-rich Galaxy S3 smartphone. The LTE version of the phone, which contains RDA's transceiver, has been selling in the Korean domestic market since 2012. We look forward to further ramping production of our 6220E transceiver as the Galaxy S3 continues to gain share in the Korean market in 2013."
