ATLANTA, March 8, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) is pleased to announce that the board of directors has elected Richard A. Whaley to fill the Georgia member directorship vacancy on the board. The term will expire on December 31, 2014.
Since 2001, Mr. Whaley has served as president, chief executive officer, and director of Citizens Bank of Americus in Americus, Georgia. From 1989 to 2001, he served as market manager and commercial lender for Wachovia Bank. Mr. Whaley served as chairman of the Georgia Bankers Association from October 2010 to June 2012. Mr. Whaley also served as chairman of the Georgia Southwestern State University Foundation from 2002 to 2004. From 2008 to 2010, he served as chairman of the South Georgia Technical College Foundation. Mr. Whaley has been a member of the Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia Cities Foundation Special Downtown Task Force since 2011.
In accepting the position, Whaley said, "FHLBank Atlanta has been a reliable source of liquidity and risk management products for its members. I look forward to helping the Bank meet its business objectives while representing the interests of the Georgia members."
