LSI Demonstrates 12Gb/s SAS Performance Together With LSI(R) SandForce(R) Enabled SSDs

First-to-Market SAS Products Show the Power of End-to-End LSI 12Gb/s SAS Performance for Enterprise Server and Storage Environments

TAIPEI, Taiwan, March 21, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LSI Corporation (Nasdaq:LSI) today announced it is showcasing industry first-to-market 12Gb/s SAS solutions together with SSDs driven by award-winning LSI SandForce® Flash Storage Processors. The performance demonstration at the annual LSI APAC Storage Forum brings together the LSI 12Gb/s SAS I/O controller and the LSI 12Gb/s SAS expander, connected to 6Gb/s SATA SSDs from multiple customers and SandForce Driven™ members, including ADATA, Kingston and Transcend.

The LSISAS3008 I/O controller along with the LSISAS3x48 SAS 12Gb/s expander deliver the end-to-end 12Gb/s enterprise performance that next-generation servers and storage systems require. The demonstration shows performance throughput of over 6,000MB/s sustained reads across twelve 6Gb/s SATA SSDs. To take advantage of 12Gb/s speeds with existing 6Gb/s drive infrastructure, the demo features LSI DataBolt™ technology. DataBolt technology, when combined with the extended bandwidth of PCIe® 3.0, is designed to deliver double the throughput performance today while using 6Gb/s SAS or SATA drive solutions. DataBolt technology provides unmatched flexibility to adapt to future changes, and that helps protect customers' HDD and SSD investments.

"This demonstration highlights the performance that LSI 12Gb/s solutions can deliver to address the explosive growth of information in cloud and enterprise datacenter environments," said John Kitajima, vice president of Asia sales, LSI. "We have worked closely with the storage ecosystem to deliver LSI's first-to-market 12Gb/s SAS solutions, with the high performance and interoperability required for PCI Express 3.0 based systems."

"Kingston SSDs using SandForce controller technology offer the most efficient path for optimizing the performance and endurance of our storage solutions," said Louis Kaneshiro, senior technology manager, Kingston. "Working closely with LSI and other ecosystem members, we are pleased to be among the first to demonstrate the advantages and benefits of our SATA 6Gb/s SSDs on a 12Gb/s and PCIe 3.0 system."

Production-volume shipments of the 12Gb/s SAS ROC and 12Gb/s SAS I/O controller are currently available, to be shortly followed by the availability of 12Gb/s SAS expanders, MegaRAID® controllers and HBAs.

Now in its 12th year, the annual LSI APAC Storage Forum event in Taipei has become a premier event for showcasing the world's leading storage technologies. The LSI APAC Storage Forum brings together influential server developers from major suppliers across the globe.

The 12Gb SAS demonstration will be on display for visitors to the LSI APAC Storage Forum. More information on the complete LSI SAS portfolio is available at www.lsi.com/sas.
