(Nasdaq:IDCC), a wireless research and development company, today announced that Todd Simpson has joined the company as Executive Vice President of Innovation Partners. In this role, Simpson will lead an expansion of the company's technology development capabilities through acquisitions, investments and partnerships with leading technology firms, inventors, universities and research organizations worldwide. Simpson will also be responsible for establishing and leading the company's planned Silicon Valley office, which will drive this initiative.
Simpson brings a wide range of experience and expertise to InterDigital after holding executive positions with several technology companies. Most recently, Simpson served as the Chief of Innovation for Mozilla where he created and led innovation efforts for the company, including leading Mozilla's Identity, Web Applications, Labs, Services and IT groups.
Innovation Partners is a newly formed organization established to capitalize on opportunities to expand and diversify the company's technology sourcing capabilities in response to fundamental changes in the mobile and wireless ecosystem. The concept is based upon the creation of collaborative partnerships to drive disruptive innovation by combining and leveraging expertise and capital in a manner that is beneficial to partners and customers. For example, InterDigital recently announced an investment and R&D collaboration with BIO-key International to target advanced cloud security, identity and access management solutions for the mobile market. Through this partnership, InterDigital will integrate its security technology with BIO-key's state-of-the-art fingerprint biometric authentication solutions to create product offerings for the mobile market.
