About The New Jersey City University Student Investment Management Team (SIM):

The New Jersey City University Student Investment Management Team is comprised of approximately 30 members of the Student Investment Management Group (SIM Group). Many of them are immigrants, hailing from places like Egypt, Mexico, Togo, India, and China. Most live in Hudson and Essex counties. We currently manage about $160,000 of real money and we have beaten the S&P 500 each year since inception (4 yrs). Last year our portfolio returned 18%.

Our group is organized into four investment teams, each headed by a portfolio manager supported by several analysts. Stocks are selected by the teams and presented to the larger group for approval prior to investment. Twice a year, our President and Vice-President prepare an economic outlook, and the Portfolio Managers adjust their sector weightings to match the expectations for the upcoming two quarters. It is a fairly simple approach to investing, one that is believed to be well-suited to our students skill set. We hold about 40 stocks in our portfolio. 100% equity, long only, benchmarked to the S&P 500.
