PHILADELPHIA, May 22, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), the premier trade association for imaging professionals, has announced that Shawn Henry, an editorial and corporate photographer, has received the 2013 International Photographic Council (IPC) Professional Photographer Leadership Award. He was selected by the association as the member who best represents the group's criteria and ideals, and is one of eight winners being recognized by professional photography organizations at the IPC's 15th annual Pro Award Luncheon held at the United Nations on May 22nd.
According to ASMP Executive Director Eugene Mopsik, "Shawn has exhibited extraordinary leadership and dedication to the photographic community. He has been a tireless advocate for the rights of working professionals and we applaud him for his good work."
Henry's activities have included a 25 year history of participation with the Eddie Adams Workshop, seven years of service to Editorial Photographers culminating as Vice President, and six years of service to the ASMP Board of Directors including as president for 2012/2013. He photographs real people in real places, shooting assignments for Business Week, Forbes, the National Geographic Society and Time magazines, as well as corporate clients including Bank of America, Fidelity Investments and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He currently lives in Gloucester, MA, America's oldest fishing port.
The Leadership Awards are presented each May, which is International Professional Photographer Month, by the IPC, a non-governmental organization (NGO) of the United Nations dedicated to increasing worldwide recognition of photography as a universal means of communication. In addition to ASMP, seven other associations have designated honorees for 2012: American Photographic Artists (APA), Federation of European Photographers (FEP), National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), Professional Photographers of American (PPA), Professional School Photographers Association (PSPA), White House News Photographers Association (WHNPA), and Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI).
