New Survey Shows Enterprise Mobile and SaaS Strategies Dependent on Integration With Legacy Applications

57 Percent Indicate Critical Need to Modernize Applications Using APIs to Connect to Other Applications and Data Sources: Major Driver of Growth for Integration Leader MuleSoft

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - May 23, 2013) - MuleSoft, provider of the world's most widely used integration platform to connect the New Enterprise, found in a survey that 57 percent of enterprise IT professionals indicated the need to modernize legacy applications using APIs to make it easier for applications outside the firewall to access their data. While respondents agreed that mobile and SaaS are critical to their long term IT strategies, exposing their existing applications to be consumed by mobile and other external applications remains a primary obstacle.

"There is massive buzz around SaaS, mobile and Big Data, but the secret nobody talks about is that you can't make it work without connectivity," said Ross Mason, founder and vice president of product strategy at MuleSoft. "This survey shows there is powerful market demand for integration solutions, driving a new era of hyperconnectivity. In 2012, 60 percent of MuleSoft's new revenue involved SaaS and/or mobile integration -- proof that we are making good on our mission to alleviate the $500 billion integration pain point."

In the 2013 Global Mobile, API and SaaS Enterprise Adoption Survey of 300 enterprise IT professionals across a variety of industries, MuleSoft found that enterprises embarking on SaaS and mobile strategies encounter significant integration challenges, with APIs being a key strategy in solving the problem:

  • 56 percent said there are initiatives around mobile apps within their organization, and enabling mobile apps is a top priority for respondents who do not yet have a mobile app strategy
  • Almost half responded that managing the performance and security of mobile APIs was one of the biggest obstacles to executing on their organization's mobile app strategy
  • While SaaS promises to reduce complexity, over 60 percent indicated SaaS adoption resulted in IT infrastructure becoming more complex or at least the same
  • Over 80 percent responded that they have either embarked on an API strategy or felt strongly that there should be one as part of their company's overall IT strategy

Device and data driven initiatives represent a potential opportunity to create new sources of competitive advantage; however, the survey found that IT professionals and businesses are challenged to integrate these fragmented endpoints to create that advantage, even as the volume and potential value driven by those connections continues to grow exponentially.

MuleSoft's Growth Fueled by the Explosion of SaaS and Mobile Connectivity Requirements
MuleSoft has experienced massive growth as a result of the convergence of SaaS, mobile and Big Data, underscoring the need to leverage APIs and bridge the gap between legacy applications and new technology strategies. In the era of the New Enterprise, companies must combine applications, data, partners and customers into a single, high performing entity. This need for hyperconnectivity is a significant catalyst driving adoption of the Anypoint Platform and MuleSoft's continued momentum.

The company closed another record-setting quarter at the end of March, more than doubling Q1 revenues year-over-year at 109 percent, and attaining other key milestones to date in 2013, including:
