T.J. Martell Foundation Announces Upcoming Skin Cancer Workshop at Bonnaroo

Cancer Research Foundation Will Distribute Prevention Tips at Bonnaroo Music Festival

NEW YORK, June 3, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The T.J. Martell Foundation, the music industry's largest foundation that supports leukemia, cancer and AIDS research, is proud to be part of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival on June 13-16, 2013 in Manchester, Tennessee. The Foundation's tent will be located in Planet Roo, the non-profit village on the Bonnaroo Festival campus.

Festival goers will have the opportunity to stop by the T.J. Martell Foundation's booth and learn about skin cancer prevention and awareness, an important platform for patrons who will be out in the sun throughout the festival. "Unfortunately, people don't usually think about skin cancer while they are in the sun and having a fun time," said Laura Heatherly, CEO of the Foundation. "We hope that our presence will remind people to protect themselves from the sun."

During Bonnaroo, in the Planet Roo non-profit village, a special workshop on Sunday, June 16 at 11:30 a.m. will feature Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, MD, Co-Founder/Medical Director of the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, an organization that works in partnership with the T.J. Martell Foundation. Dr. Kapoor's workshop will focus on skin cancer prevention, self-detection and when to seek advice from a doctor.  He will go through the types of skin cancer, who is more at risk and focus on the most deadly form of skin cancer, Melanoma, which can be lethal.  Informational pamphlets from the American Dermatology Society that highlights a free program/website for the SPOT program will be distributed.

The T.J. Martell Foundation encourages festival attendees to stop by Planet Roo and learn more about cancer awareness and prevention.
