IPC The Hospitalist Company Acquires Post-Acute Care Practice in Southern New England

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., June 26, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (Nasdaq:IPCM), a leading national hospitalist physician practice company, announced today that it has acquired Sound Senior Geriatrics LLC [SSG], a post-acute hospitalist practice based in Mystic, Connecticut. The acquisition represents an expansion for IPC in Southern New England, where the company already has an established presence.

R. Jeffrey Taylor, President and Chief Operating Officer of IPC, commented, "SSG has a very solid track record of caring for post-acute care patients in the area, and we see significant opportunities for coordination with our acute care practice in this market. This acquisition will enable our practices to improve the integration of care and ultimately the outcomes for both the patients and the facilities we serve.

Michael Feltes, M.D., owner of Sound Senior Geriatrics, said, "IPC and SSG already have an informal working relationship in the community.  Improving the quality of care in the post-acute setting, and in particular reducing incidence of re-hospitalization, has become a priority in this era of healthcare reform. Formally joining forces with IPC provides us the opportunity to reach new levels of clinical integration on important metrics such as re-hospitalizations. SSG felt that aligning with IPC is a smart move in today's environment of more accountable care."

Sound Senior Geriatrics has an annualized volume of approximately 14,000 patient encounters.
