CoverMyMeds Surpasses Five Million Prior Authorizations Milestone

COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 24, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Yesterday, Ohio-based CoverMyMeds, LLC reported that a pharmacy in its network started the five millionth Prior Authorization (PA) request sent through their system. The announcement comes a day after NCPDP published the first e-prescribing (SCRIPT) standard to include the electronic prior authorization (ePA) implementation guide. CoverMyMeds has worked with the industry to develop the standard, and is the first provider software vendor to use the standard at scale.

"Four major health plans and PBMs are working with us to make real-time electronic prior authorization possible for their patients," says Co-Founder, Matt Scantland. "We expect that most major PBMs and health plans will be transacting electronically with CoverMyMeds within the year."

CoverMyMeds' rapidly growing network includes nearly two-thirds of all retail pharmacies, and over 100,000 prescribers and their staff in a massive electronic prior authorization ecosystem, connecting PBMs and health plans. Networks and quantifications aside, Scantland says electronic prior authorization is really about medication adherence; "This milestone means that nearly five million people got established on the drugs they needed to stay healthy, or to treat a chronic condition."

Scantland adds, "We want to thank the healthcare providers, the PBMs and health plans that have taken the first step towards better medication adherence, and of course, NCPDP, and the industry, who collectively recognize that electronic prior authorization completes the value proposition in electronic prescribing."

CoverMyMeds® helps physicians, pharmacists, and their staff complete Prior Authorization and other insurance coverage determination forms for any drug, and almost all drug plans. For more information, please visit: http://www.covermymeds.com.
