Accellion Sets the Standard for Government Security for Mobile File Sharing

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 24, 2013) - Accellion, Inc., the pioneer in providing enterprise-class, secure mobile file sharing solutions, today announced that it has received Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certification for their cryptographic module. The module now extends coverage to AES 256 bit encryption, which is utilized in Accellion's newly introduced mobile productivity features, the highest level of government software certification. Accellion is the only vendor in its market offering government-grade security for online file sharing and mobile productivity software.

A pioneer in the online file sharing space, Accellion has been utilizing FIPS 140-2 certified encryption for three years and was the first in the market to do so. The re-certification covers innovative new functionality added since the solution's last certification. A standard developed by the US federal government for use in computer systems, FIPS 140-2 addresses the encryption requirements for non-military government agencies and vendors and is overseen by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Given the sensitivity of government information and files, federal regulations mandate the use of FIPS 140-2 certified encryption for data in transit to meet government standards. In support of the government's new Mobile Computing Decision Framework, which outlines ways for agencies to develop safer mobile products for use on government networks, Accellion now ensures its customers can enable mobile productivity for all workers while ensuring data security within federal regulations.

Although federal standards, such as FIPS 140-2 certification, were created for government agencies and contractors, corporations are also beginning to seek such government-level security due to the increasing prevalence of mobile security incidents. According to a recent survey by security company Check Point, nearly 80 percent of organizations have experienced some kind of mobile security incident in the past year. Of those, more than 60 percent experienced $100,000 or more in financial losses from that incident.
