ClearStory Data Appoints Google Executive Dr. Shona Brown to Company Advisory Board

10-Year Senior Google Veteran Executive Joins ClearStory Data's Advisory Board as the Company Prepares for Growth in Big Data Market


PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 25, 2013) - ClearStory Data, a company delivering a new big data solution that makes it fast and simple for business users to find, combine and interactively analyze data from corporate and disparate third-party sources, today announced that Dr. Shona Brown has joined the company's advisory board as a Strategic Advisor. Dr. Brown served on Google's management team and was instrumental in helping scale Google from 2003 through its IPO in 2004 and Google's explosive growth through 2011. In 2011, she took on the role of leading all of Google's technology for social impact efforts and in January of 2013 she stepped into an advisory role with the company as a Googler Emeritus.

Prior to Google, Dr. Brown was a partner at McKinsey & Company where she focused on working with technology companies on growth, innovation, and transformation. During her time at McKinsey, Dr. Brown was a leader of the Global Strategy Practice and worked with a wide range of technology firms on strategy development and business model transformation.

Dr. Brown is the author of Competing on the Edge: Strategy as Structured Chaos, which introduced a new strategic model for competing in volatile markets. She is a director of the non-profit organizations The Bridgespan Group, The Nature Conservancy, The Exploratorium, and San Francisco Jazz Organization. She also serves on the board of PepsiCo.

Dr. Brown has a bachelor's degree in computer systems engineering from Carleton University in Canada, an M.A. in economics and philosophy from Oxford University, which she attended as a Rhodes scholar, and a Ph.D. and postdoctoral degree from Stanford University's Department of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management.
