Sensory and DSP Group Introduce World Class Voice Activation Solution for Smartphones and Wearable Devices

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 29, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DSP Group®, Inc. (Nasdaq:DSPG), a leading global provider of wireless chipset solutions for converged communications, and Sensory, Inc., a leader in speech technologies for consumer electronics, announced today the joint development of a voice activation solution for smartphones and wearable devices based on DSP Group's ultra-low power DBMD2 and Sensory's TrulyHandsfreeTM Voice Control 3.0 solution.

DSP Group and Sensory have implemented Sensory's TrulyHandsfree on DSP Group's DBMD2 platform. DBMD2 also features DSP Group's HDClearTM noise reduction and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) boosting technologies, making it ideal for consumer electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops and wearable computing devices.

DBMD2 is DSP Group's high-performance, low-power, audio/voice DSP chip. DBMD2 offers a programmable, 32-bit DSP audio-centric processing solution. It is packaged in a tiny 3.0 x 3.0mm UFBGA. An open platform, DBMD2 enables seamless integration of third-party solutions like Sensory's TrulyHandsfree, as well as other pre-and post-processing technologies.

According to Neil Shah, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, "Effective and power-efficient voice activation is increasingly crucial in today's mobile device arena, where on-the-go consumers require truly eye-free and hands-free input options. Together with HDClear, DBMD2 delivers accurate, robust, and low-power voice activation - maintaining battery life and prolonging handset usage. Leveraging DSP Group's patent-pending technology, the jointly-developed solution can also effectively distinguish between the speaker and surrounding voices, eliminating false wake-ups and even further reducing power consumption. This new solution reduces the barriers and addresses the pain-points for mobile device users to use voice as one of the key interaction mediums, taking it to the next level," he concluded.

"It has been our pleasure to work with Sensory, a true leader in voice activation and voice command technologies. Sensory's TrulyHandsfree technology is robust, efficient and a great fit with DBMD2," said Raz Kivelevich-Carmi, Director of the HDClear product line at DSP Group. "Sensory's voice activation and control truly complements our technology, which maximizes ASR accuracy and noise reduction - creating tremendous value for our mobile device customers," he concluded.

"DSP Group's DBMD2 is a powerful and power-efficient platform, and is well-matched to TrulyHandsfree," said Bernard Brafman, Sensory's Vice President of Business Development. "The open DBMD2 environment made integration very smooth, and our joint solution offers a truly hands-free experience to the end user," he continued.
