J. Dash's Hit Single "WOP" Goes Platinum

StereoFame's Emerging Superstar Celebrates 1 Million Sales of Debut Single "WOP"

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 12, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sunday night, FOX's Teen Choice Awards closed its show with the entire audience dancing to J. Dash's "WOP", breaking a world record for "twerking." On Monday, the viral dance hit, which is the debut release off J. Dash's album, "Tabloid Truth," surpassed one million in sales according to StereoFame Records, earning the rising superstar his first Platinum Record and a place in the record books alongside music industry greats- an unprecedented accomplishment for the lone artist of the independent label.

The song, which is entering its 10th week on the BillBoard TOP 100 Chart, has created an international dance craze, with pop stars like Miley Cyrus and Ashley Tisdale "wopping" and "twerking" to the track as can be seen here (http://youtu.be/HH7MaFImu7k) and here (http://youtu.be/jle33471zuo). The music video, featuring J. Dash's friend and multi-platinum rapper Flo Rida, along with the thousands of other fan uploaded WOP videos, have received over 100 million YouTube views and "#WOP" has become a common "trending" topic on both Vine and Instagram.

"Words can't describe how exciting it is to see 'WOP' reach Platinum status," said J. Dash. "This record defies conventional wisdom and I have my fans on Vine, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter to thank for that. WOP keeps spreading around the world like a virus...it's unlike anything I ever imagined."

Ken Underwood, Founder and CEO of StereoFame Records added, "We're really excited with the success of our first release, but this is just the beginning; our focus now shifts to maximizing WOP's potential while simultaneously positioning J. Dash's next single for similar success. StereoFame Records has demonstrated that, by strategically leveraging social media with a hit record, artists no longer need the support of a major label to go platinum. That said, because of WOP's potential to amass upwards of 10-15 million in sales, we're currently entertaining proposals from several major labels who are eager to become partners in J. Dash's success. In fact, J. and I expect to announce a partnership with one of the majors before the end of the month, so stay tuned."

A rapper, songwriter, producer, mixer & multi-instrumentalist, this Renaissance man and classically trained pianist holds a computer science degree from the University of Florida and, in his spare time, builds apps for his own, personal use "to make life easier." J. Dash's debut album features a mix of up-tempo dance tracks and introspective selections like the title track "Tabloid Truth" and the anthem-like album opener "Life." Dubbed as having "the skills and the voice to transcend all hip-pop conventions" by Music Connection Magazine, the album has been praised for its layered appeal. "The listener can enjoy the songs just on the surface," said CelebrityCafe.com. "But a more discriminatory listener can look for deeper meaning and more subtle musical nuances and find them as well."
