NCSBN Launches Interactive Timeline

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Sep 5, 2013) - In celebration of its 35th anniversary, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) has launched an interactive timeline that includes pictures, audio recordings and videos of important people and events in its history. The timeline can be viewed on NCSBN's website at https://www.ncsbn.org/timeline.

Drawn from archival sources, the timeline chronicles NCSBN's seminal milestones of the last 35 years. Featuring video and audio clips of excerpts from interviews with the organization's founders, Board of Directors presidents, and both past and current executive directors from NCSBN Member Boards, the timeline reveals the story of the organization from its creation in 1978 to the present day.

The timeline is divided into five eras: Establishing the Mission-driven Organization (1978-1985); Forging New Frontiers with Computerized Adaptive Testing (1986-1994); Transforming Regulation Through Technology (1995-2002); Promoting Evidence-based Nursing Regulation (2003-2008); and Collaboration and Outreach (2004-2013). Each of these segments includes information about significant milestones, leadership, delegate assembly decisions, as well as listing committee members and award recipients.

Founded March 15, 1978, as an independent not-for-profit organization, NCSBN was created to lessen the burdens of state governments and bring together boards of nursing (BONs) to act and counsel together on matters of common interest. NCSBN's membership is comprised of the BONs in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories -- American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. There are also 16 associate members that are either nursing regulatory bodies or empowered regulatory authorities from other countries or territories.

NCSBN Member Boards protect the public by ensuring that safe and competent nursing care is provided by licensed nurses. These BONs regulate more than 3 million licensed nurses, the second largest group of licensed professionals in the U.S.

Mission: NCSBN provides education, service and research through collaborative leadership to promote evidence-based regulatory excellence for patient safety and public protection.

The statements and opinions expressed are those of NCSBN and not the individual member state or territorial boards of nursing.
