Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund: Government of Canada Lends Support to Centre communautaire Sainte-Brigide

MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 9, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that Centre communautaire Sainte-Brigide has been granted funding for the renovation of the inline hockey rink located in the basement of the former Sainte-Brigitte-de-Kildare church.

"By funding this Centre communautaire Sainte-Brigide project, our government is fulfilling its commitment to improve the social and economic fabric of our communities," said Minister Lebel.

Centre communautaire Sainte-Brigide is a non-profit organization established in 2006 to manage the buildings bequeathed by the Parish of Sainte-Brigide-de-Kildare, in Montréal's Centre-Sud district. One of the buildings' tenants, Les Chemins du Soleil, operates a number of community-based projects, including a gymnasium that is made available to neighbourhood youth for the practice of inline hockey. The gymnasium also serves for other sports and recreational activities and is used as a local reception and meeting hall.

The project of Centre communautaire de Sainte-Brigide involves demolishing three pillars in the centre of the gymnasium, replacing the plumbing, heating and electrical systems and renovating the storage areas. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the local population's quality of life.
