LRAD(R) Aboard Australian Guided Missile Frigate Deploying to the Middle East

LRAD Essential Maritime Security Capability

SAN DIEGO, CALIF., Sept. 17, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LRAD Corporation (Nasdaq:LRAD), the world's leading provider of long range acoustic hailing devices (AHDs), today announced that an LRAD system is aboard an Australian guided missile frigate deploying to the Middle East. The deployment of the HMAS Melbourne is part of Australia's defense force contribution to the international coalition against terrorism.

"The October 2000 attack on the USS Cole exposed the vulnerability of naval ships operating near ports and littoral zones in potentially dangerous areas," remarked Tom Brown, president and CEO of LRAD Corporation. "This lethal incident was the impetus for creating our proprietary Long Range Acoustic Device® and using highly intelligible long range communication to create large standoff zones, unequivocally determine the intent of approaching boats not responding to radio calls and, if necessary, provide security personnel time and distance to scale their use of force."

Featuring extended frequency range and unprecedented clarity, LRAD systems broadcast hails, commands and warnings to potential vessel threats over distances of 3 kilometers and beyond in maritime security applications. Built to meet stringent U.S. Navy requirements, LRAD systems are fully operational in extreme weather and harsh marine conditions.

Brown concluded, "Increasing installations on naval and coast guard vessels around the world have established LRAD as a vital maritime security capability that can help prevent deadly terrorist attacks and accidental shooting incidents."
