IPC The Hospitalist Company Acquires Missouri Acute Care Practice

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Sept. 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (Nasdaq:IPCM), a leading national hospitalist physician group practice company, announced today that it has acquired the hospitalist-related assets of Metropolitan Pulmonary and Hospital Medicine, P.C. (MPHM). The practice is based in Kansas City, Missouri, where IPC has had an established presence since 2010. With the MPHM transaction, IPC will be entering into two new hospitals in the Kansas City area.

R. Jeffrey Taylor, President and COO of IPC, stated, "The MPHM hospitalists are a welcome addition to IPC and we are very pleased they have chosen to join us. A well-known and highly respected practice group, MPMH has a strong reputation among primary care physicians in the community. In just three years, IPC has built a solid position in the Kansas City market, and the MPMH hospitalists will make us even stronger."

Commenting on the transaction, Sidney Devins, M.D., co-founder of MPHM, said, "Our hospitalists in Missouri see a tremendous opportunity to benefit from joining a strong national practice group while continuing to improve the quality of care we provide to our patients. We are especially excited to tap into IPC's expanding network of post-acute care practices so that we too can provide patients with a true continuum of care experience in both acute and post-acute care settings."

Patient encounters from the acquisition are estimated at approximately 36,000 on an annualized basis.
