Outside Magazine Names Mammoth Mountain Bike Park #1

Mammoth Tops the List of Lift-Accessed Terrain

Mammoth Lakes, Calif., Sept. 19, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- When it comes to lift-accessed mountain biking in the United States, Mammoth Mountain's Bike Park reigns supreme. Confirming what the Park's thousands of annual visitors already know, Outside Magazine named Mammoth the number one park in its recent ranking of the top five.

"This behemoth resort on the eastern flank of the Sierra lives up to its name," wrote Outside's Aaron Gulley. "With some 80 miles of trail and 2,800 feet of vertical drop. It's almost exclusively purpose-built trails, with lots of berms, racecourses (with timed events weekly), wood features, and a terrain park. Not only does DH world champion Aaron Gwin train here, but the mountain is home to one of the longest-running downhill events in the country, the Kamikaze Games. The season runs till the end of September."

The recognition from Outside comes on the heals of the Kamikaze Bike Games, which renewed a decades-old tradition, bringing the sport's stars, current and past, to the Eastern Sierra for a weekend of two-wheeled fun and competition that paid tribute to mountain biking legends while looking forward to the sport's bright future.

"This is an enormous honor," said Dave Geirman, Mammoth's Bike Park Director. "We're really proud of the hard work our team has put in, taking what was already a tremendous place to ride and making it even better. The sport has evolved exponentially over the last half-decade and we've really benefitted from the vision of Aaron Gwin and others who helped us build a trail system that's evolved along with the sport, pushing boundaries while introducing a whole new generation to mountain biking."

The Bike Park will remain open for the final two weekends of the month, Sept. 20-22 and 27-29. For more information about the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park, including up-to-date trail reports and passes, visit the Bike Park homepage.
