PARC and GreenBiz Group Work Together to Boost Cleantech Startups

PARC's Scott Elrod to Judge VERGE San Francisco

Palo Alto, CA, Sept. 23, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PARC, a Xerox company, today announced a partnership with GreenBiz Group to participate at VERGE, to be held October 14-17 in San Francisco, as part of PARC's commitment to supporting cleantech and energy startups. Scott Elrod, PARC VP and VERGE judge, will be on stage providing industry expertise and perspective about participating startups in the VERGE Accelerate pitch competition on October 15 at 10:30 a.m.

"PARC has been at the forefront of technology innovation for more than 40 years," said Joel Makower, Chairman and Executive Editor, GreenBiz Group. "We're thrilled to bring that legacy to VERGE SF to work with promising startups addressing some of the world's most pressing problems. PARC's insights will play a key role in helping bring radical efficiencies to the fields of distributed energy, smart cities, connected vehicles, and data centers."

Startups have ample access to talent, coaching, and funding from VCs to angels and accelerators - what's often missing is access to capital-intensive infrastructure and specialized expertise. PARC brings strong background intellectual property (IP) and deep, diverse expertise that has been "reduced-to-practice" in the commercial context, along with infrastructure and services that would otherwise be unavailable to startups.

"Working with GreenBiz Group gives us another avenue to support cleantech startups, where PARC's open innovation services can help them accelerate time-to-market and reduce some of the risks they face early on," said Scott Elrod, Vice President of the Hardware Systems Lab, PARC. "When working with startups, we go beyond typical entrepreneur-in-residence or incubator support by helping companies avoid some of the pitfalls in the R&D phase and create new business options, co-develop custom technology, and augment internal capabilities.

By providing a history of innovative development, custom technology, IP, commercialization expertise, access to experienced, industry experts, and internal research capabilities otherwise unavailable at an early stage, PARC helps cleantech startups conquer challenges, advance technology, secure funding, and maximize their impact.
