Photo Release -- Morgan Drexen Food Drive Shatters Expectations

Nearly 1.5 Tons of Food Collected During "Slow Season" for Giving

COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 3, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Talk about moving mountains! Workers at the Orange County Rescue Mission literally had their hands full trying to transport massive piles of food collected during Morgan Drexen's latest food drive. The final tally exceeded all expectations: employees donated nearly 3,000 pounds of sustenance that will benefit needy families from throughout Orange County. It is one of the organization's biggest food donations of the year. The food drive coincided with "National Good Neighbor Day," which took place September 28, 2013.

"We appreciate Morgan Drexen's passion for the poor and homeless," said Jim Palmer, Orange County Rescue Mission President. "We are always looking for dedicated organizations to partner with us in our mission to end homelessness. Morgan Drexen has grown their participation over the last year and we look forward to even more in the future."

In addition to the food drive, 18 Morgan Drexen employees volunteered their time by helping to serve meals to residents of the OC Rescue Mission's "Village of Hope" September 25 and 26.

Last November, Morgan Drexen employees collected more than 2,100 pounds of food during a Thanksgiving food drive - the OC Rescue Mission's largest donation of 2012. A competition between floors at Morgan Drexen headquarters helped boost the final total during that food drive, with the fourth floor taking the title. This time around, a pizza party was announced as the grand prize for the floor that collected the most food. Despite a spirited challenge from the fifth floor, employees on the fourth floor once again captured the crown, collecting 1,266 pounds alone!

"We rocked it again!" boasted Desmond Adams, Settlement Manager for Morgan Drexen - and the 4th floor team captain. "A pizza party is certainly a great motivator and so is bragging rights, but for us it was really about helping families in need."

The OC Rescue Mission will also be receiving a check for $540 raised during Morgan Drexen's latest "Denim Day" fundraiser September 27. Morgan Drexen CEO Walter Ledda was so impressed with the overall effort, he decided to throw a pizza party for the entire company.

"We know the summer months and early fall are when donations tend to slow down significantly," said Ledda. "The fact that our employees were able to help replenish the shelves with much needed food is certainly worthy of a celebration and a big thank you to all our generous employees."
