World Food Championships to host Food Fight on Fremont Street

Bill Bates and Earl Campbell to battle in heavyweight, food fight bout

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Put your chef's coats on and your dukes up! The World Food Championships announced today the first-ever Food Fight on Fremont Street to be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, as part of the World Food Championships. The Food Fight on Fremont Street will pair 3-time Super Bowl Champion, Bill Bates, against NFL Hall of Famer, Earl Campbell in a heavyweight bout of tastiest proportions in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas. The event is free and open to the public to attend.

As a celebration of Las Vegas' heritage of unbelievable prize fights, the Food Fight will connect former world-class professional athletes with the high-stakes, high-pressure world of competition culinary. This inaugural event will feature an-all time great defensive hitter against an all-time great running back as they clash head on in a winner-taste-all, cook-off to thrill the masses. It will feature Earl Campbell Meat Products along with a special ingredient by Bill Bates. And it's all happening at 3rd Street Main Stage on Fremont Street, only in Las Vegas.

"So many past and present sports heroes are carrying over their athletic expertise in to the food world," said Mike McCloud, president and CEO of the World Food Championships. "As the leading food-sport competition, it only makes sense to bring together super food and professional athletes into one arena."

Aside from the Food Fight on Fremont, the World Food Championships will feature about 400 food champions in one single $300,000 high-stakes competition. From Nov 7-10, these culinary artisans will dish out their best flavors in barbecue, chili, burger, sandwich, dessert, bacon and recipe (with a special emphasis on pasta). In addition to the individual category competitions, the World Food Championships will feature several ticketed "grazing" options, for those interested in getting a taste of championship food, such as the Ultimate Bacon Experience.
