Chesapeake Chiropractor Switches to Digital Records for Enhanced Patient Care

CHESAPEAKE, Va., Oct. 20, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation in Chesapeake, VA is switching to digital records for improved health care quality and lowered costs. According to chiropractor Dr. Eric Santjer, electronic records will make it easier to track patient care and to coordinate care with referring physicians, while also enhancing patient privacy. Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation is one of the first Chesapeake-based chiropractic centers to make the switch to electronic records.

Chesapeake chiropractor Dr. Eric Santjer announced that his practice, Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, has made the switch to electronic health care records.

"Electronic health records offer a number of important advantages to our patients, including increased safety, effectiveness, efficiency and communication," said Santjer.

The new electronic health records will provide accurate, up-to-date and complete information on patients at all points of their care. Additionally, Dr. Santjer will be able to efficiently coordinate with a patient's primary care physician, should a patient request that.

"Electronic records improve collaboration, which is key to patient health," said Dr. Santjer. "We are always happy to coordinate with a patient's primary care provider, especially for the treatment of serious injuries. The new records will make it easier to work with these providers and reduce the risk for medical errors through legible, complete documentation."

For example, the electronic health records, also known as EHRs, will track patient information as well as copies of digital X-rays, test results, and treatment plans.

"The electronic health record is a full patient profile that is securely stored and instantly accessible to our chiropractic team," said Dr. Santjer. "Already since making the switch, we are experiencing the difference that EHRs make for enhanced patient care each day."

As part of Dr. Santjer's approach to chiropractic care, the Chesapeake chiropractor creates personalized treatment plans for each patient. These plans can now be tracked and accessed using the electronic health records.

"Our treatment approach integrates a variety of techniques, including manual adjustments, with complementary therapies such as therapeutic massage," said Dr. Sanjter. "Electronic records make it easy to coordinate care across our rehabilitation team."

The chiropractor stressed that patient privacy is protected at every step in the process. Records are electronically secured and cannot be accessed without proper authorization.

"We take patient privacy very seriously, which is one reason why we have transitioned to EHRs," said Dr. Sanjter. "We firmly believe they are a secure choice that puts our patients' needs first."

Dr. Santjer provides manual spinal adjustments for managing back pain, sciatica, neck pain and other chronic pain conditions. As part of the clinic's approach to integrative care, Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation also provides complementary therapies, including massage therapy, nutritional and lifestyle advice, physical rehabilitation, and pregnancy care.
