iMatrix Raises Funds for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

SORRENTO VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 24, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, iMatrix raised $5,160 in donations for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Since 2010, iMatrix and its employees have been dedicated to raising funds and participating in the Making Strides Walk in Balboa Park. The annual walk and fundraiser, which took place on Sunday, October 20th, is put on by the American Cancer Society and all donations gathered benefit San Diego residents affected by breast cancer.

Out of the 242 San Diego companies participating in the event, the Sorrento Valley online marketing services provider was one of the top 30 fundraisers. The fundraising goal for the iMatrix team was $5,000 and the company exceeded that goal this year. The company encouraged employees to fundraise and even hosted a raffle with prizes including gift cards, chess sets, and other items for those who participated in raising money for the breast cancer walk.

"This is the fourth year we have participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer," said Asaf Benhaim, CEO and Co-Founder of iMatrix. "Breast cancer has touched the lives of so many members of the iMatrix family and we feel strongly about supporting those in our community who are facing it."

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event initially started in 1984 by cancer survivor Margery Gould Rath. As a survivor herself, Margery founded the event to celebrate cancer survivors and raise money for the American Cancer Society. Since 1984, the event has garnered over 8 million walkers and raised more than $460 million to find a cure for breast cancer and provide supportive services for cancer patients and their families.

In addition to raising money for the American Cancer Society, employees and friends of iMatrix walked in the 5k walk through Balboa Park. Over 40 participants walked with iMatrix to show their support for breast cancer survivors. Benhaim said, "The event is such a great opportunity to show our support for survivors and spend time with our employees and their families."

The San Diego Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising goal for 2013 is $850,000. At time of publication, the event had raised $812,154.52 towards that goal. Donations are still being collected by the iMatrix Making Strides team and can be made to the American Cancer Society through the end of the month. Donations are used to provide screening tests, develop prevention programs, provide transportation and support services to those diagnosed with cancer, fund research to find a cure for breast cancer and other types of cancer, and to raise awareness for local communities.
