Carnival Cruise Lines Selects the Widen Media Collective for Video Asset Management

DAM System to Organize a Growing Collection of Videos, Provide On-the-Fly Format Conversions and Enable Self Service Access for Employees and Partners

MADISON, WI--(Marketwired - Oct 30, 2013) -  Carnival Cruise Lines, the world's largest cruise line, has selected the Widen Media Collective to oversee its video asset management efforts. The cruise operator will use the new digital asset management (DAM) system to organize a growing collection of videos and enable on-demand access, keyword searches and on-the-fly conversions for employees, travel agents and video editors.

With 24 ships that visit dozens of ports of call throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and other destinations, Carnival has produced a wide variety of video content to support marketing efforts within its cruising regions. However, the growing collection of video files was becoming difficult to navigate, and the cruise line needed a system that allowed for easy searching and the capability to convert clips on the fly for quicker delivery.

"We needed a simple way to organize, find and then download videos in the right format," said Erika Bertsch, senior marketing manager and content producer at Carnival Cruise Lines. "We also needed a system that allows us to control assets by different user groups."

After researching a number of DAM systems and consulting with the company's IT department, Bertsch and her team selected the Widen Media Collective.

"Not only is the DAM system easy to use but very powerful," said Bertsch. "Widen DAM offered all the technical capabilities that our video editors needed."

The Widen Media Collective's easy user interface will make Carnival's video collection accessible for hundreds of shoreside employees while the system's support for a wide range of video formats will enable editors to work with both high-resolution and low-resolution videos according to their needs.

Using Widen's flexible user role and permission configurations, Carnival will also be able to provide appropriate levels of access to internal and external production teams and employees, as well as its travel agent partners.

"It is very exciting to have Carnival Cruise Lines deploying the Widen Media Collective on a grand scale," said Craig Bollig, digital asset management advisor at Widen Enterprises. "Their plans to have thousands of travel agents across the nation using the DAM as the central brand library for Carnival really showcases the solution's capabilities and ease of use."
