Florida Panthers Protect the Line on Disaster Recovery

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 30, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The 82-game season of the National Hockey League is long enough without having to manage team operations around man-made or natural disasters. To strengthen its bench, the Florida Panthers signed a three-year contract with Peak 10, a national infrastructure and cloud solutions provider, for a new disaster recovery implementation.

The Sunrise, FL-based Panthers' new failover site is located in the Atlanta operations of Peak 10, which customized a cloud-based DR solution capable of replicating financial and operations data offsite within minutes of a disaster.

"Here in South Florida, severe weather is just one of the things that can shut down our IT operations, potentially costing thousands of dollars, untold man hours, and a damaged reputation with fans and the community," said Michael R. Yormark, Panthers president and CEO. "Peak 10 showed us a cost-effective way to reduce our risk and protect our mission-critical data. Peak 10's Recovery Cloud infrastructure and wide geographic footprint helps us ensure that our organization runs smoothly no matter what we encounter."

The Peak 10 Recovery Cloud will supply the Panthers with continuous data protection (CDP) style replication, which ensures near real-time back-up of data and applications. Geographic separation of primary and secondary sites strengthens data protection while relieving the Panthers' IT staff of the cost and lost productivity of maintaining its own DR operation.

"It was important to the Panthers that they be able to fail over to a replicated IT environment outside of Florida during severe weather events," said Stefan Pittinger, vice president for Peak 10. "Building a second IT infrastructure location on its own would have been expensive and time-intensive. Not only is the Peak 10 Recovery Cloud more cost-effective, the Panthers also have support staff at their disposal 24/7/365 and unmatched flexibility to change and grow its IT environment as needs change."

Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Peak 10 operates data centers in 10 key markets in the U.S., serving customers around the globe. Peak 10 is the official cloud provider for the Florida Panthers.
