Peak 10 Finds Cure to Rising Healthcare Insurance Costs

Healthy employees make a healthy company

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 1, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Despite the strong headwinds of rising costs in all areas of healthcare, insurance costs at one company have fallen. The reason, according to PEAK 10, a national IT infrastructure and cloud solutions provider, is that more of its 350-member workforce employees are actively involved in improving their health and maintaining their own well-being.

Peak 10 has held the line on Insurance premium increases for the past three years. Twice as many employees now avail themselves of preventative screenings compared to six months ago, increasing from 15 percent of the workforce to 30 percent. Screenings, which include body mass index, cholesterol, and diabetes, reveal previously unknown health issues that can then be treated and managed sooner and more affordably than later-stage illnesses.

Creating a culture of health and fitness in an organization first starts by example, then opportunity. Peak 10 people have both the example and the opportunity, supported by concerted communications, encouragement and incentives from the company.

"An emphasis on healthy living comes from the top of the Peak 10 organization," said Karin Davies, VP of human resources. "Our leadership team believes that a healthy company is a more successful company, one that thinks and works better, and is a better business partner for customers. Everyone benefits."

Additional efforts to instill health awareness into Peak 10's corporate culture include weekly fitness programs such as cardio and Pilates workouts. Organic fruit deliveries for employees arrive weekly, as well.
