Contra Costa Waste Services Honors America Recycles Day With Free e-Waste Drop-Off and Compost Giveaway November 16

PITTSBURG, Calif., Nov. 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Old computers, printers, televisions, cell phones and other electronic equipment don't have to take up space in your home—they can be recycled for free on November 16 at Contra Costa Waste Services, part of waste management company Garaventa Enterprises.

Contra Costa Waste Services' free e-Waste event will take place on Saturday, November 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the RCTS facility located at 1300 Loveridge Road in Pittsburg, Calif. Free bagels and doughnuts will be provided.

Anyone who drops off their e-Waste items will also receive up to four bags of compost for free. Additionally, free compost bags will be provided to people who bring clean wood, yard waste, and other recycling items to the Contra Costa Waste Services facility, known as the Recycling Center & Transfer Station (RCTS). RCTS is one of the largest recycling centers in the country at approximately 170,000 square feet when combined with the nearby Mt. Diablo Recycling center.

Contra Costa Waste Services staff will be on hand to assist people with bulky recycling items; participants can even choose to stay in their cars during their drop-off.

This free e-Waste event is being sponsored by Contra Costa Waste Services in conjunction with America Recycles Day, an annual celebration of all things recycling taking place across the country November 15.

In the last five years, the Garaventa Enterprises family of waste management companies has increasingly focused its efforts on educating the community about the value of recycling through its in-school initiatives and annual programs such as its paperless billing "Give Back" program. As a result, recycling tonnage has increased by more than 7,900 tons in the first three quarters of 2013 compared to the first three quarters of 2008. Mt. Diablo Recycling has also bought back almost 2,200 tons of recyclables direct from customers since 2008.
