Jamba Juice and University of San Francisco Engage Bay Area Community Leaders in Advancing School Wellness and Academic Success at GENYOUth "Learning Connection" Town Hall

Organizations Partner to Drive Meaningful Collaboration Between Private and Public Sectors in 2nd National GENYOUth Foundation Town Hall

EMERYVILLE, Calif., Nov. 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Jamba Juice Company (Nasdaq:JMBA), a leading healthy, active lifestyle brand, in partnership with the University of San Francisco and the GENYOUth Foundation, an organization dedicated to nurturing child health and wellness through healthy nutrition and increased opportunities for physical activity, today hosted a gathering of local leaders across business, education, health, government and sports in a dialogue addressing Bay Area school wellness, which reinforced the three organizations' commitment to improving childhood nutrition and fitness. The event, also supported by the Dairy Council of California and the Quaker Oats Company, was designed to bring together public and private sector organizations with a vested interested in child health and identify solutions for local area schools.

The San Francisco GENYOUth "Learning Connection" Town Hall, held at USF's McClaren Hall, kicked off with a 10-person panel discussion moderated by Olympic medalist Summer Sanders, which led into an interactive roundtable session for attendees to align on ways to help local schools enhance nutrition and physical activity-related programs and initiatives.

Panelists included USF Trustee and former NFL player Tracey Porter; United Health Care Western Region CEO, Dan Rosenthal; Treasure Island Culinary School Chef Charles Fitzgerald; former Notre Dame football coach, Tyrone Willingham; Executive Director of the San Francisco 49ers, Joanne Pasternack; Dairy Council of California Executive, Tammy Anderson-Wise; American Heart Association Executive, Shane Valentine; Roosevelt School District Administrator, Anne Gaffney; and USF Associate Professor of Kinesiology, Diana Lattimore.

Attendees were welcomed by Jamba chairman, president and CEO James D. White; GENYOUth Foundation CEO, Alexis Glick; USF Provost Jennifer Turpin; and Hydra Mendoza from the Mayor's Education and Family Services Advisor representing Mayor Lee.

"I am pleased by the participation of so many passionate people at today's Town Hall," said Mr. White. "It was outstanding to see a cross-section of leaders, community member and students take time out of their busy schedules and come together to discuss the critical issues around school wellness. I am confident that the event will benefit our local schools and students in a positive way." Mr. White cited Jamba's successful youth job creation program, which has been recognized by President Obama as a model for public / private sector collaboration, as an example of the type of success he expects will result from the GENYOUth Town Hall.

"Together, we can make a difference," said GENYOUth's Glick. "The ultimate goal is to generate actionable steps to get kids eating better and moving more at school, and, crucially, to forge public‐private partnerships that garner commitments of assets to launch and fund these solutions. Schools cannot succeed alone. The broader community, including business leaders, health professionals, community organizers, parents, and students themselves must work together to effect change for children's health."

GENYOUth Foundation was established to inspire and educate youth to improve nutrition and increase physical activity in schools and their communities, through a public-private partnership with National Dairy Council and the National Football League.

Jamba recently announced its partnership with GENYOUth which will include sponsoring a second GENYOUth Learning Connection Town Hall in St. Louis in the Spring of 2014, continuing to amplify the message of the Learning Connection, and by underwriting GENYOUth Adventure Capital Grants supporting youth-created, entrepreneurially inspired, youth-empowered programs to advance enhanced nutrition offerings and increased access to physical activity in America's schools. Jamba will also be sponsoring and supporting GENYOUth's convening of their 2014 National Nutrition and Physical Activity Learning Connection Summit, along with working together to further build out additional support for 'Healthy Kids/Healthy Schools' across the Country.
