NEW MARIMEKKO STORES OPEN IN FINLAND

Marimekko Corporation, Press release, 11 November 2013 at 2:00 PM

The Marimekko store network in Finland is expanded and remodelled. A new outlet store is opened in Vantaa today, and earlier this month Marimekko opened a gift shop in the centre of Helsinki. Later on, the Helsinki shop will be turned into a new kind of specialist store. The company’s stores in Kitee and the Arctic Circle have been remodelled.

“In addition to our international expansion, we have also invested in developing our store network in Finland, which is a very important market for us. In order to maintain the attractiveness of the network, it is constantly updated both with new store openings and with refurbishments of existing premises. We aspire to display our collections in the stores in a fresh and inspiring way and make the products available to as many consumers as possible. We strongly believe that our colours and patterns are needed to bring joy to people’s everyday lives - now perhaps more than for a long time," says Sales Director Päivi Lonka.

Today, Marimekko celebrates the opening of a new outlet store in the Tammisto district of Vantaa. The store, with an area of 260 square metres, is located in a popular outlet shopping centre and mainly sells past-season items. The range embraces all of Marimekko’s product lines.

Earlier in November, Marimekko opened a new, 39-square-metre store in the heart of Helsinki, next to its flagship store. Located on a lively pedestrian street at Mikonkatu 2, the store will initially function as a seasonal gift shop and will later on be turned into a new kind of specialist store.

Marimekko’s outlet store in Kitee was refurbished and moved to new premises at the beginning of September. At the end of October, a Marimekko store focusing on new items was opened in the Santa Claus Village in the Arctic Circle. At the same time, Marimekko’s outlet store in the Arctic Circle was closed. In November, a shop-in-shop concentrating on Marimekko’s home decor products will be opened in Kuopio. Earlier this year, Marimekko opened its own stores in Oulu and Kotka, and a retailer-owned Marimekko store was opened in Hämeenlinna. Three shop-in-shops have also been opened in Finland this year.
