Logentries Announces Service to Provide Visibility into AWS Cloud Computing Performance

Logentries "AWS Insights" beta now available

BOSTON, Nov. 13, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Organizations using Amazon Web Services (AWS) that are looking to improve performance, lower cost and streamline their cloud computing operations can do so by quickly and effectively analyzing their AWS log data with "AWS Insights," a new service from Logentries.

Now in beta, Logentries AWS Insights is the first software-as-a-service (SaaS) available to automate and simplify the collection, analysis and correlation of the huge volumes of data buried in the log files across a user's AWS infrastructure.  Logentries AWS insights gives deeper visibility into AWS environments by combining traditional log data with AWS specific API information. With out-of-the-box support for CloudWatch, including Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Elastic Block Store (EBS), Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) and Relational Database Service (RDS) events and other AWS services, Logentries provides a single log stream to help dev and sys ops better manage their entire AWS environment.

"As more and more of our customers move to the cloud they continue to tell us they need help separating the useful, actionable signals from the big data noise.  Our mission is to unlock the operational insights from the little data points hidden within the millions and millions of log events that aren't useful or germane, and to make those insights simply accessible to everyone," said Andrew Burton, President and CEO of Logentries.

Moving to the Cloud Demands Greater Operational Insights
Each day organizations are moving more of their computing infrastructure to the cloud. In order to maintain their operational efficiency and discipline, however, they need visibility and insights to their compute resources that do not end at the threshold of their company's front door. Currently, the task of managing those offsite AWS resources is handled through disparate tools, custom approaches and manual processes, which add cost and increase the chances for mistakes and potential system issues.

An early user of Logentries AWS Insights has been NewsWhip, an online service that tracks in real-time the world's most interesting news as determined by social networks traffic. Paul Quigley, CEO of NewsWhip, said: "At NewsWhip, where knowing the next big thing before it's the next big thing is critical, Logentries enables us to stay ahead of any operational issues by providing us with a single pane of glass across our AWS infrastructure. Whether it is deep insight into our application performance, tracking of AWS utilization information via CloudWatch, or reviewing the latest infrastructure and operational events, our development, operations and support teams rely on log data as the data source of record for our business."

Logentries AWS Insights includes:

- AWS OpsStream which provides a single log data analytics and event correlation source for operational visibility and discovery across a user's AWS infrastructure, including Amazon CloudWatch, Trusted Advisor (Coming Soon) and AWS API event level data;

- AWS Connector which enables AWS log data to be collected with ease via a single command and automatically discovers Linux EC2 instances, dynamically configures them, and scales on-demand as new instances are added.

In addition, the Logentries service comes with capabilities for users to search, obtain alerts, create tags and build reports for all of their log data, regardless of source. No hardware or software installation, or special expertise, is required.

When generally available, AWS Insights will be included at no additional cost to the core Logentries services. This includes the free version of Logentries, which allows users to send up to 1GB of log data per month.
