Water Leaders Will Be "All In for California Water" at ACWA Fall Conference

More Than 1,600 Water Officials to Gather Dec. 3-6 in Los Angeles


SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 19, 2013) - Planning for California's water future requires input from local, state and federal leaders as well as movers and shakers in agriculture, the environment and the economy. More than 1,600 water leaders from such diverse backgrounds will discuss California's water future Dec. 3-6 during the Association of California Water Agencies' 2013 Fall Conference & Exhibition, themed "#ALLIN for California Water." The conference will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.

More than 90 programs, keynote addresses, forums and educational seminars examining California's critical water issues are scheduled during ACWA's annual fall conference. Some of the topics explored include building resiliency in a changing climate, the water-energy nexus, ocean desalination, the 2014 water bond, fracking and the potential for a critically dry 2014.

Keynote Speakers include:

  • Assembly Member Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood), chair of the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee and point person on discussions on the 2014 water bond. Rendon will share his thoughts on the upcoming legislative session and potential action on the 2014 water bond during the conference closing breakfast on Fri. Dec. 6.
  • Natural Resources Secretary John Laird, Cal/EPA Secretary Matt Rodriquez and Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross who will provide an overview of the state's recently released draft California Water Action Plan during the Wednesday luncheon, Dec. 4. The plan seeks to provide a road map to guide the state's efforts on pressing water issues over the next five years.
  • Michael J. McGuire, author of a new book on the public water system's conquest over water borne diseases in the United States. McGuire will deliver the keynote address at the luncheon program on Thursday, Dec. 5.
