LAKE FOREST, Calif., Dec. 16, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Apria Healthcare Group Inc. today announced the appointment of Daniel J. Starck, Chief Executive Officer of the Company's Apria Healthcare LLC respiratory therapy/home medical equipment operating unit, to the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. Starck will fill a Board seat vacated by Michael Dal Bello, who recently resigned from the Company's Board following his departure from The Blackstone Group to pursue another career opportunity. The appointment is effective immediately.

In his current capacity as CEO of the $1.2 billion Apria Healthcare respiratory therapy/home medical equipment operating unit, he oversees the above functions as well as strategic planning, finance and accounting, government relations, human resources, corporate compliance, information technology, field operations, sales and marketing.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, John G. Figueroa, Chairman of the Board of Apria Healthcare Group, commented, "In a very short period of time, Dan Starck has led the steady improvement in overall operating and financial performance of our respiratory therapy/home medical equipment business during a time of unprecedented change in the industry. He has a track record of effectively executing performance improvement initiatives and strategically repositioning the business unit in our industry. Combined with his previous experience as CEO in the workers' compensation arena – another highly competitive segment of the healthcare industry -- he is the ideal new member of our Board."

A graduate of San Diego State University, Mr. Starck lives in Orange County, California with his wife and four children. He is based at Apria Healthcare's corporate office in Lake Forest, California.
