Photo Release -- SECU Members Renew Support for NC GreenPower's Renewable Energy Program

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 19, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) members via the SECU Foundation are continuing their support of North Carolina's ecological success, helping NC GreenPower improve North Carolina's environmental quality through renewable energy alternatives and community awareness. Over the next four years, SECU Foundation's partnership with the nonprofit NC GreenPower will provide funding for 1 kilowatt hour of renewable energy production in North Carolina annually for each of the cooperative's 1.8 million members. The Foundation's commitment will bolster the local green power economy with over 7.2 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy usage and equally reduce the consumption of traditional electricity sources statewide!

Vicky McCann, Vice President of NC GreenPower comments, "As a State Employees' Credit Union member myself, I am honored that the SECU Foundation has chosen once again to support our program. With a commitment to a greener North Carolina and energy efficiency, SECU Foundation and NC GreenPower have a wonderful partnership that directly benefits the citizens of our great state."

The SECU Foundation began supporting NC GreenPower's renewable energy program in 2007. The production of clean electricity through green sources such as solar energy, wind power, small scale hydro-power and biomass energy from areas across North Carolina is continuing to make a positive impact on conservation efforts and the health of the state's environment. Through investments such as SECU Foundation's, NC GreenPower's program continues to grow and includes more than 2,200 registered solar PV installations, about 35 wind turbines, nearly 90 hydroelectric facilities and close to 30 landfill energy projects.

"We are pleased to be partnering with NC GreenPower to bring more awareness to North Carolina's energy and environmental climate," adds McKinley Wooten, SECU Foundation Board Chair. "As proactive stewards of our land and resources, SECU members are demonstrating their commitment toward building a sustainable energy future for our state and citizens of North Carolina. Creating renewable electricity from sources that are naturally replenished and in abundance is 'the right thing to do' for our environment and for North Carolinians."
