USHCC Applauds the Appointment of Sean Reyes as New Attorney General of Utah

WASHINGTON, Dec. 24, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) applauds the appointment of Sean Reyes, an award-winning nationally recognized legal professional and public servant, as the next Attorney General of Utah. Mr. Reyes assumes his new role following more than a decade as a small claims judge, and two years on the governing body of the Utah State Bar. During his tenure as President of the Utah Minority Bar, Mr. Reyes received numerous state and national honors, and served in leadership positions for the Young Lawyers Division. The new Attorney General also played a crucial role in reestablishing the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and co-founded its education-targeted foundation.

"I commend Governor Herbert for appointing a true leader and loyal son of the state of Utah to serve as the next Attorney General. The Governor understands the importance of fostering top talent that is representative of all Utans, and his selection of Mr. Sean Reyes is another testament to his visionary leadership," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "Mr. Reyes' background and his platform for office make clear he understands the legal needs of Utah's families, its diverse communities, and its thriving entrepreneurial sector. We look forward to working with Mr. Reyes and reporting on his future successes."

After graduating summa cum laude from Brigham Young University and earning a law degree with honors from U.C. Berkeley, Reyes spent fourteen years at Parsons Behle & Latimer, the largest law firm in the state – making him one of the first Hispanic lawyers to become a partner at a major Utah firm. In addition to his extensive legal and business background, Reyes was appointed by Governor John Huntsman to serve on the Third District Judicial Nominating Commission. During his time in office, President George W. Bush established a National Congressional Commission, upon which Reyes also served and provided council.

"The office of Attorney General plays a vital role in the lives of all who live and work in Utah. In this regard, Mr. Reyes offers a unique and eclectic blend of political, non-profit, small business, and legal knowledge to fill this vacancy. His ability to balance the needs of public interest while upholding the letter of the law is critical for the growth of the economy and well-being of your state's residents," said USHCC Chairman of the Board Marc Rodriguez.

"Mr. Reyes is one of the shining stars in Utah's business and legal communities. He is bright, articulate, honest, loyal, extremely hard-working, a dedicated family man and consummate professional," said Don Salazar, USHCC Region II Co-Chair. "The people of the state of Utah have gained a loyal ally and trusted public servant, and I am certain he will embrace this role with humility and a passion to serve."
