About Things We Read:

What is our Mission?

Things We Read provides an intimate look at the bookshelves of the most influential and interesting people of our time. We aim to reinvigorate you, the modern reader, with collections of your favorite people's favorite books. As a dedicated non-profit, our proceeds go towards donating these books to soldiers deployed overseas and communities in need. Things We Read, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated in the state of New York.

Who is our audience?

We aim to inspire our Veterans, Soldiers and the younger generation, providing them with notable recommendations and making quality reads free and accessible. And of course anyone who is looking for good book recommendations and people who want to help make books available to our Nation's heroes and communities in need through donations.

How did we think of it?

We were sick of shelving half read books. We needed a reason to keep reading. In 2011, two of our founders were serving as platoon leaders in Iraq. While overseas, they began collecting the book recommendations of well-respected leaders in their unit, and began distributing those lists among the soldiers. The soldiers liked the books, and in an effort to further their goal to encourage reading, www.ThingsWeRead.com, was born.

How do we do it?

Our website collects the book recommendations of famous, brilliant, and influential people that readers find interesting. We post these recommendations on the site, and the most popular books are donated to Service Members and communities in need. We believe that making books easily available is a step in the right direction toward making reading more accessible and contemporary.

Why do we do it?

Because nobody likes a bad book
