CHANDLER, Ariz., Dec. 30, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mediware Information Systems, Inc., announces a four-part webinar series designed to prepare inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation providers with helpful tips and guidelines to assist with the transition from ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 codes prior to the Oct. 1, 2014 implementation deadline. Each hour-long webinar is free and will be hosted by Paula Digby, CCS, CDIP, CPC, CPCI, Principal at AQ Consulting and AHIMA Approved ICD-10 CM/PCS Ambassador.
ICD (International Classification of Disease) is a code set designed to standardize how organizations report on conditions, medical diagnoses and inpatient procedures. ICD-10 is the tenth revision of the ICD code set. It's required for everyone covered under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Claims with ICD-9 codes for services provided on or after the compliance deadline will not be paid.
The first two webinars are geared toward inpatient rehabilitation providers. On Jan. 22, Digby will explore features that most providers did not use with ICD-9 but may find useful with the new ICD-10 upgrade. This will provide a baseline for attendees to measure against the current coding schema. The March 26 session will serve as a starting point for attendees as the industry transitions to ICD-10-CM and will help provide clarity through all the hype surrounding the transition.
The third webinar will assist attendees as they work to understand the ICD-10 vehicle as it relates to outpatient rehabilitation coding and documentation. During the June 25 event, Digby will review best practice models and help attendees understand the potential for 'skids' and 'accidents' caused by bad documentation habits. The final webinar on September 10th is for physicians and clinical staff as they move into the driver's seat. Attendees will understand the details needed for diagnosis documentation to clearly describe the patient's severity of illness and required need for the intensity of services provided.
All webinars will take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET. Registration for the ICD-10 webinar series is limited to the first 500 people.
