Change to the Board of Directors of the Icelandic Housing Financing Fund

The Minister of Social Affairs and Housing has appointed Drífa Snædal to the Board of Directors of the Housing Financing Fund, replacing Stefán Ólafsson.

Drífa was born on 5 June 1973. She graduated as a draftsperson from Iceland’s Technical College in 1998, earned a degree in business administration from the University of Iceland in 2003 and a master's degree in labor law from the University of Lund, Sweden in 2012.

Drífa worked as a draftsperson with engineering firm Afl og Orka ehf from1997 to 2000, and as an accountant at the same engineering firm from 1999 to 2006. From 2003 to 2004 she was manageress of educational and promotional affairs for the Association for a Women’s Shelter and later served as general manageress of the association until 2006. In 2006 she took over as manageress of the Left-Green Movement and held that position until 2010. Since 2012 she has been managing director of the Federation of General and Special Workers in Iceland.

Drífa was chairman of the Icelandic Apprentices’ Association from 1996 – 1998, sat on the board of the Left-Green Movement from 1999 – 2007, and served as secretary of the association from 2005 to 2007. She served as an alternate Member of Parliament from 1999 – 2003 and took a seat in the Althingi parliament on two occasions during that period. Drífa was an alternate member of Reykjavík City’s Committee on Human Rights from 2002 – 2006 and sat on the board of Kvennaskólinn í Reykjavík Junior College from 2006 –2009. She served on the committee on amendments to the constitutional structure in 2009, and on the committee on changes to the law on political party finances that same year. She was also a board member of the Duty Free Store ehf from June 2009 –2011, and sat on the board of Borgarholtsskóli Junior College in 2013, and the board of Hlaðvarpinn – Women’s Cultural Fund from 2007, acting as treasurer from 2007 – 2009, chairman 2009 – 2011 and again since the year 2013.
