Keller Rohrback L.L.P. Investigates Side-Effects Associated With Sodium Phosphate Laxatives

SEATTLE, Jan. 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Attorney Advertising. Keller Rohrback L.L.P. is currently investigating the side-effects associated with the use of over-the-counter sodium phosphate drugs to treat constipation ("laxatives"). A recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") announcement warned consumers that using more than one dose of sodium phosphate laxatives, such as those sold under the brand name Fleet, by C. B. Fleet Company, Inc., or similar generic and store-brand over-the-counter laxatives, in a 24 hour period can cause rare, but serious harm to organs, such as the kidneys and heart, and in some cases may even result in death.

The FDA also warned that some individuals may be at a higher risk for potential adverse effects from sodium phosphate laxatives when the recommended dosage is exceeded. Those individuals include young children and adults older than 55, patients who are dehydrated or suffering from kidney disease, a bowel obstruction or have inflammation. Also, consumers that use over-the-counter laxatives and are also using diuretics or water pills that affect kidney function, high blood pressure medications, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may also suffer adverse side-effects.

If you or someone you know became ill or suffered a serious side-effect after using over-the-counter sodium phosphate laxatives, please contact paralegal Cindy Buser or attorneys Mike Woerner or Mark Samson at (800) 776-6044 or via email at consumer@kellerrohrback.com.
