Volkswagen created a whole new segment in 1976 when it put a high-performance engine and sport-tuned running gear in their Golf hatchback and created the original GTI.

Using a similar strategy in 1984, the Jetta GLI was created, its 90 h.p. engine and close-ratio 5 speed transmission adding a dose of excitement to the compact sedan market.

Today, Volkswagen is pleased to present the latest version of the GLI, the "Edition 30". Based upon the successful 6th generation Jetta GLI, the Edition 30 ups the ante and distinguishes itself with a host of unique features.

Outside, the most obvious change is within the wheelwells, now filled with 18" "Watkins Glen" alloy wheels. Bi-Xenon headlights feature LED daytime running lamps and an adaptive light system that turns the beams up to 15 degrees in the direction of a turn for dramatically improved visibility. In a nod to the car's heritage, a "GTI-esque" red stripe through the front grille is carried through the headlamps, and "Edition 30" badging is found on either flank. Finishing off the look is a subtle trunklid spoiler that is as functional as it is sporty.

Inside, the door sill plates are emblazoned with the same logo found on the exterior, and "Carbon Optik" interior trim combines with a special-edition shift knob to ensure the car's exclusivity.

Powered by the latest version of Volkswagen's award-winning 2.0L direct-injected turbocharged engine, the GLI delivers 210 hp through either a 6 speed manual or direct shift gearbox.

Now available to order, the Jetta GLI Edition 30 is priced from $31,275.
