National Interstate Takes Top Honors in the 2013 US Captive Service Awards

RICHFIELD, Ohio, Jan. 20, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- National Interstate Insurance Company landed three of the 2013 US Captive Service Awards: Claims Management Firm of the Year, Customer Service in Risk Consulting, and Most Innovative Use of an ART Structure. These awards acknowledge excellence in the delivery and management of captive insurance and celebrate innovation, commitment and expertise in the captive insurance field.

Judged by a panel of captive owners and risk managers, the awards recognize service providers who have excelled over the past 12 months. National Interstate won the awards based on criteria including responsiveness to client needs, excellent customer service, efficiency, value, and innovation in the ART industry overall.

"We are honored to receive these three prestigious awards, and proud to be recognized as a leader in the alternative risk transfer industry," said Dave Michelson, President and Chief Executive Officer of National Interstate. "Since we entered the ART marketplace in 1995, we have created over 25 custom programs for transportation and specialty clients, representing over 50% of our gross premiums written.   The ART component of our business has become extremely successful as it provides an innovative approach for best-in-class companies to better manage their risk and stabilize their long-term insurance costs. Companies that join our ART programs enjoy many advantages, including the opportunity to receive return of unused premiums and investment income. Members also have access to a dedicated captive claims unit, exclusive risk management services, and exceptional customer service."

Tony Mercurio, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of National Interstate, shared the following comments specific to the three winning awards. "When it comes to claims handling, what sets National Interstate apart is our commitment to building enduring relationships with our clients by providing the highest level of communication. We have also adopted a unique consultative approach to risk management by helping our customers understand and analyze where their losses are coming from so that they can become safer operators. Additionally, National Interstate has benefitted the ART industry with programs designed for visionary clients, such as our novel Large Account Rental Captive program, which allows us to offer middle market companies all the benefits of having their own captive insurance company, but without the capital and resource commitment."
