Send Valentine's Day love to the troops with donation of U.S.-made Thorlos socks

Padded military hosiery manufactured in North Carolina

STATESVILLE, N.C., Jan. 22, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- THORLO Inc. has fallen for Valentine's Day, heart and "sole."

And the family-owned company sees no worthier recipient of that love than our troops, which is why THORLO is selling its U.S.-made padded military socks at manufacturing cost to encourage donations to service men and women.

The Thorlos-brand socks may be purchased at www.thorlo.com/troops at $6.95 per pair or three pairs for $20.85, plus North Carolina sales tax. THORLO picks up the shipping cost.

"We are fond of saying that our brave troops have each other's backs, but let THORLO have their feet," said Jim Throneburg, founder and owner of the Statesville-based company. "When your job is protecting your country, the last thing you need to be thinking about is your feet."

Ideally, each military member would have three pairs of socks: one to wash, one to dry, and one to wear.

"We send the product with disinfecting wipes so the troops can clean their feet in the field before they put on the donated socks," Throneburg said.

Military service often includes extremes of weather and terrain. Feet can get wet from sweating or from crossing bodies of water; skin can soften and easily blister without proper care. Feet can get cold or even frostbitten.

The padding in Thorlos clinically tested socks has been found to reduce blisters, pain, pressures and moisture. Thorlos was the sock of choice for U.S. special forces for cold-weather operations in Afghanistan.
