PowerStream earns United Way 'Community Campaign Spirit Award'

Successful charity golf tournament helps utility win award for second consecutive year

VAUGHAN, Ontario, Jan. 27, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As a result of successfully achieving community engagement in its 2013 United Way campaign through its annual charity golf tournament, PowerStream has earned the United Way York Region's (UWYR) "Community Campaign Spirit Award" for the second consecutive year.

Presented to PowerStream at the UWYR's 2013 campaign celebration event held last Thursday at Markham's Angus Glen Golf Club, the 'Community Campaign Spirit Award' recognizes companies that "go above and beyond by engaging the public community in their United Way York Region campaign." In 2013, funds generated by PowerStream's Annual Charity Golf Tournament contributed more than $93,000 towards the $180,000 total that the company donated and was shared between the United Way York Region and the United Way of Greater Simcoe County.

PowerStream was also nominated for the "York Region Community Spirit Award". This award is presented by UWYR "to the organization that achieved the largest contribution to United Way York Region's Community Fund."

The UWYR's annual celebration event recognizes donors, volunteers and companies that champion United Way across York Region. As a result of its 2013 campaign, UWYR has achieved 27 per cent of its three-year target of raising $30 million.
