CAMBRIDGE, Ontario and NORTH BATTLEFORD, Saskatchewan, Jan. 30, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The City of North Battleford, Saskatchewan has formally approved plans to bring world-class biosolids solution provider, Lystek International to the community, reducing local landfill pressures and producing a federally registered fertilizer product to benefit agriculture.

North Battleford joins the rapidly expanding list of communities using the patented and proven, Lystek technology. The approximately $3 million installation at the waste water treatment plant will be similar to other, on-site Lystek installations, including the system and a year of covered storage capacity. The process will enable the city to divert biosolids from landfill and convert them into a nutrient-rich, federally registered (CFIA), Class A quality fertilizer for use by area farmers. The fertilizer, trademarked as LysteGro, is pathogen free, high in nutrients and organic matter and more cost effective than traditional, chemical alternatives.
"After much research and analysis, it was clear that the Lystek technology was the right fit for North Battleford. The system will fit into our existing plant infrastructure with few, if any, changes needed to our current equipment. The system requires no additional staff to operate, adds almost no additional operational costs and with our revenue sharing agreement, we will actually generate income from sales of the fertilizer. This will allow us to take something that was once considered a waste and turn it into a valuable resource our community and environment will benefit from," added Mr. Schafer.
