PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 5, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Teach for America (TFA) has selected Diversified Search (Diversified) to recruit the key position of Executive Director – D.C. Region. Diversified was founded in 1974 and is one of the nation's top ten executive search firms. Diversified is recognized for delivering high quality corporate Board and senior-level executive searches across all industry sectors nationally and internationally. TFA is a national organization recruiting talented emerging leaders to teach in urban and rural schools for a minimum of two years. With more than 30,000 alumni, TFA has become a force for leadership for educational equity all across the education sector—in schools, in district leadership, in policy, law, and in many non-profit organizations. Together, TFA's current teachers, called "corps members," and alumni are dedicated to closing the achievement gap and making it possible for all children in the nation to access an excellent education.

"We are looking for an individual who will lead our regional team and will build upon the significant progress already underway in the region," said TFA D.C. Regional Board Chair Katherine Bradley. "We selected Diversified because of their close alignment with TFA, their shared sense of mission in achieving excellence for all children. They have the in-depth national resources and innovative outlook to lead this important search."  In the D.C. Region, TFA has more than 250 corps members teaching almost 17,000 local students. Together with 2,150 area alumni, whose ranks include more than 50 school and school system leaders and 3 elected officials, the TFA corps and staff are working to provide a pipeline for great teachers, in great schools, for all D.C.-area children.

According to Diversified President Dale Jones, "Diversified's philosophy of going 'beyond conventional wisdom' to find great leaders aligns with TFA and its mission. We look forward to applying this way of thinking as we work with TFA to achieve their organizational goals." Diversified's Education Practice has worked with more than 300 educational institutions and not-for-profit organizations to recruit executives with the special blend of leadership skills required, as well as a passion for the mission, commitment to diversity and inclusion, and an appreciation for the importance of engaging stakeholders.

ABOUT TEACH FOR AMERICA…

All kids—no matter where they live, how much money their parents make, or what their skin color is – deserve access to a great education. But in our country today, low-income children do not have the same access to a great education as their wealthier peers. It's not easy to close this gap, but hundreds of proof points show that it's possible. It takes committed leaders in our classrooms today who will continue to fight for students tomorrow. Teach For America's mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by developing such leaders.
