Medical Acoustics Announces the Appointment of Sensormedics Italia as Master Distributor for Europe, Middle East and North Africa

BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 6, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Medical Acoustics, LLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Sensormedics Italia as master distributor for Europe for the Lung Flute, a breakthrough respiratory device. Sensormedics will also promote and market the Lung Flute within the Middle East and North Africa on a non-exclusive basis. The Lung Flute is a low cost, non-invasive medical device that uses patented low-frequency acoustic wave technology to stimulate the body's natural mucus-clearing system. In clinical studies, the device demonstrated efficacy mobilizing retained secretions and improving airway clearance in patients suffering from COPD, asthma, pneumonia and bronchiectasis. As a diagnostic tool, the Lung Flute provides an effective method to induce a deep lung secretion sample to test for diseases such as TB, lung cancer and pneumonia.

The Lung Flute is the first product introduced by Medical Acoustics, which was built on over 10 years of research and development in the area of applying acoustical science to healthcare. The device has been cleared by the US FDA and European Union for both therapeutic and diagnostic use; it is the only respiratory device that can make such a claim. The Lung Flute's novel use of acoustical technology and the device's medical efficacy have resulted in its selection by Frost and Sullivan for a "Best in Technology Award", Popular Science named it a Best Innovation of the Year and Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry Magazine (MD &DI) named Medical Acoustics to its list of "Top 50 Companies to Watch". The efficacy of the Lung Flute is supported by a dozen clinical trials many of which have been conducted at the University at Buffalo, School of Medicine (State University of NY), The US Veterans Medical Center and the University of Maryland, School of Medicine.

Matthew Kinney, Medical Acoustics' Manager for International Business Development, stated "we are delighted to have the good fortune to a partner with an enterprise with the depth and breadth of experience in the European respiratory market as Sensormedics. Sensormedics was selected because of its long history of providing outstanding service and clinical support to the distribution channel and caregivers."

"We have an exciting opportunity to help Medical Acoustics expand the availability, distribution and use of this real innovative and effective diagnostic and therapeutic device throughout Europe and the MENA countries. As we are seeing in Italy, after almost 2 years of experience, the number of patients needing effective and accessible bronchial hygiene is very large. Regular use of Lung Flute has been helping many patients to drastically decrease the hospital readmissions, in these days a paramount need." states Roby Perissin, General Manager of Sensormedics Italia.
