MIRAMAR, Fla., Feb. 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spirit Airlines (Nasdaq:SAVE) has recently announced several new routes starting just in time for the peak summer travel season. Joining the list is new nonstop seasonal service between Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). This new service will consist of one daily seasonal nonstop flight operating between May 22, 2014 and November 1, 2014.
"Spirit's continued growth in Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul is great news for friends, relatives, and vacationers alike," said Mark Kopczak, Spirit's Vice President of Network Planning. "Spirit will serve 18 destinations nonstop from Chicago and 13 destinations non-stop from Minneapolis-St. Paul. Now even more customers going to or from the Windy City and the Twin Cities will be able to save with our insanely low fares and enjoy having more left in their wallet."
"The addition of Detroit to the growing array of routes Spirit Airlines flies from Minneapolis-St. Paul International provides welcome new air service competition to and from the Motor City," said Jeff Hamiel, executive director/CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission. "When airlines compete, consumers often benefit from lower fares as well as increased flight options."
"Wayne County Airport Authority is always eager to welcome new air service to Detroit Metropolitan Airport," said CEO Thomas Naughton. "Every new route added by Spirit increases travel options for our residents and visitors."
