GUILFORD, Conn., Feb. 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Clean Air-Cool Planet, a non-profit organization that worked collaboratively with college campuses to promote sustainable solutions aimed at reducing carbon emissions, today announced that it is transitioning its operations to the University of New Hampshire's (UNH) Sustainability Institute.

CA-CP's Campus Carbon Calculator (CCC) is widely accepted as the preferred method for calculating college and university greenhouse gas emissions. In 2013, they launched a web-based version of the CCC called CarbonMAP (Carbon Management and Analysis Platform) in partnership with Sightlines. CarbonMAP is now used by more than 550 North American campuses to measure and manage energy use and greenhouse gas emissions and will continue to be available following the transition.

"Sightlines has been committed for years to supporting sustainability in higher education and, over the past months, we have been pleased to keep the important CarbonMAP online platform up and running as Clean Air-Cool Planet wound down operations and worked out the details of the transition to UNH's Sustainability Institute," said Jim Kadamus, vice president of Sightlines, a leader in helping academic institutions better manage their facilities and capital investment strategies. "We believe in the value of this user-friendly tool for managing campus carbon emissions and the goal of this initiative to drive the future of sustainability within higher education."

Sightlines will continue to support the qualification and analysis of submitted data.

"We're very happy that UNH's Sustainability Institute wanted to continue Clean Air-Cool Planet's long-standing partnership with Sightlines," says Susan Tierney, a founder and former chair of the Clean Air-Cool Planet board of directors and managing principal at the Analysis Group in Boston. "Sightlines has been a longtime partner with a deep commitment to promoting sustainability. They've made it possible for this transition of the CCC to be seamless for CarbonMAP's users at colleges and universities, and they will have an important role going forward."

"We share a commitment with Sightlines to making the CarbonMAP platform as effective and impactful as it can possible be," said Tom Kelly, Ph.D., founding director of the UNH Sustainability Institute. "We look forward to exploring with Sightlines creative and collaborative approaches to thought leadership and transformative action on climate change solutions within higher education."
