Finisar Introduces 1 x 16 Port WaveShaper Programmable Optical Processor for Optical Communication R&D Applications

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 18, 2014) - Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR) today introduced a new member of its WaveShaper family of Programmable Optical Processors. The new WaveShaper 16000 provides a 1 by 16 port configuration and allows filtering of optical signals with arbitrary amplitude and phase. It has been designed for system test applications including channel shaping, multiplexing or de-multiplexing, channel add/drop and Flexgrid™ operation in optical R&D labs.

Covering the entire C-band of the optical communications window, the WaveShaper 16000 supports Fourier Processing which allows splitting of an input optical signal between multiple output ports, each with individual filter functions applied. The WaveShaper 16000 can be controlled using Finisar's intuitive WaveManager graphical user interface. For high-throughput test environments, the WaveShaper 16000 is supported by Finisar's simple Application Programming Interface for both Windows and Linux operating systems.

The WaveShaper 16000 is available as bench-top unit (16000S) and as modular version for system integration (16000M). It has the same size and command set as the existing members of the WaveShaper family and therefore can serve as a drop-in replacement. The WaveShaper 16000 is available and can be ordered immediately.

"The latest member of the WaveShaper family is being introduced in response to customer needs for higher port count devices," said Simon Poole, Finisar Australia, Director of New Business Ventures. "The WaveShaper 16000 will assist the research and development of next generation networks using Flexgrid™ and super channels at data rates of 400G and above."

The complete test instrument family, including the WaveShaper 16000S, will be on display at OFC 2014 from March 11-13 at the Moscone Center in Finisar's booth #3645.
