When connected to a CalAmp in-vehicle wireless communications device, the MDT-7 serves as a powerful user interface in an integrated mobile communications system. Customers can develop their own Android OS-based apps or license apps from CalAmp and/or its development community to optimize the MDT-7 for their specific business needs. The CalAmp Mobile Framework (CMF) software provides the interface to CalAmp's industry leading advanced on-board alert engine PEG™ and comprehensive management and maintenance system PULS™.

Expected to be commercially available in March 2014, the innovative MDT-7 features a multipoint touch-screen display, a ruggedized shock-absorbing silicon case with tethered vehicle dock, CalAmp's patent-pending triple-axis accelerometer technology, a GPS receiver, front and rear cameras, a 2000 mAh Lithium Polymer battery, plus USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The versatile unit's embedded software includes base programs for mapping and navigation, and also supports premium applications such as dispatch and routing, driver/worker logging, and other targeted applications to expand overall utility.

"We are excited to bring this powerful new mobile data terminal to market, which significantly extends our in-vehicle wireless communications offering, while enabling our customers to customize apps for their mission specific requirements," said Greg Gower, senior vice president and general manager of CalAmp's Mobile Resource Management business. "Coupled with one of our Bluetooth-equipped devices, the new MDT-7 enables customers to turn their vehicles into mobile command and communications centers. With a powerful user interface, the MDT-7 can stream video, deliver vital data to and from other local wireless-enabled units, and provide reliable access to on-board and back-office applications. These capabilities facilitate significant efficiency gains for the remote worker, while simultaneously empowering fleet managers to maintain close contact with their mobile workforce and assets."
